Program note

Written in the fall of 2023, Psalm 3 was composed for a performance of sacred choral works by the Kent State Chorale while the composer was an undergraduate. Its dark yet luminous harmonic language underscores the text's meditation on sleep and despair, qualities that link the piece to night music and the practice of nocturnes. The poetic adaptation of the psalm reflects the Protestant hymn tradition through the Scottish psalter.
